other ramblings
My first blog post.
When I was younger, I would fill dozens of black zebra-striped 100-page composition books with journal entries. Most of the journal entries were directed at things I did each day, but some were focused on deeper reflections and thoughts. With the rising advent of digital technology, I can now choose to publish my thoughts online, and share them with people across the world.
I have several reasons for starting a blog.
Transparency: I communicate my thoughts much better in writing than through speech, and I want to let others see the world through my eyes and gain an understanding of why I choose to do things the way I choose to. By reading what I write, my readers will discover my morals, ethics, and aspirations.
Communication: I want to showcase my abilities, motivations, and aspirations to employers in a very personal way so that I am viewed as more than just a piece of paper filled with skills and qualifications. I strongly believe that each individual can’t be summarized, or even judged based off a resume, and a blog is the perfect way to humanize something that has been completely depersonified.
Preservation: I want to immortalize myself after my death. I passionately want to create something of value to give back to the world when I die. But in a world where we have little to present to society after we pass on, I find solace in knowing my writing and thoughts will be preserved online, even if for a short period of time. In a way, it’s my way of leaving a part of myself behind to those I care about and those who care about me.
In each one of my blog posts, I promise to be 100% transparent in my thoughts and words. Everything I say will be an exact reflection of what I inherently believe, because there is no reason for me to lie.
I genuinely hope my friends, family, and anyone who discovers this website will find something valuable, because I want my ideas and thoughts to be heard. I not only want people to read, but to think and to hopefully act.
I am Derek Mei.
